GoDaddy & CodeEd Partnership Invests in Future Technology Students
Boston, MA (PRWEB) November 17, 2014 -- GoDaddy, the world’s largest technology provider dedicated to small business has partnered with CodeEd, a Boston-based nonprofit that teaches programming to underserved girls, starting in middle-school. CodeEd provides programming classes that focus on creative projects, staffed by volunteers with technical backgrounds, in order to spark an early interest in girls to pursue careers in technology, and ultimately help close the gender gap.
The Arizona based company recently opened a new office in Cambridge to attract top-notch technology talent. As part of GoDaddy’s corporate social responsibility, GoDaddy supports students at a young age to pursue technology and STEM careers.
The partnership with GoDaddy will enable the primarily volunteer organization to continue providing teachers, computer science courses and computers to girls in these communities. Keying in on how young girls learn best, the CodeEd coursework is project-based and collaborative. Girls develop websites and other programs, based on their passions, in a fun environment, led by experienced volunteer instructors.
“CodeEd programs are designed to change our girls’ perception about what programming is, and about what it means to be an engineer. We hope they will use this early experience programming in a fun, creative environment to ignite their exploration of a new path in higher education and ultimately choose a career they may have never considered before,” said CodeEd Executive Director and Co-Founder Angie Schiavoni. “We are grateful to GoDaddy for making such an important investment in the future of these young women.”
Schiavoni says that, as a primarily volunteer organization with very low overhead, CodeEd can apply GoDaddy’s contributions directly toward growing the program, and providing more opportunities for the girls who participate. “We hope this can be a spark for other companies to participate in not only helping to develop the skills needed in the modern workforce, but also to make a difference in the future potential of the communities we serve.”
Supporting and recognizing the value of women in technology is not new to GoDaddy. From CEO Blake Irving championing the creation of the GoDaddy Women in Technology network, to their long-term involvement with the Society of Women Engineers and the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, GoDaddy has continually shown a dedication to this cause.
GoDaddy has a long history of philanthropic work in support of a variety of charities and global organizations. To find out more, visit GoDaddyCares.com.
