During their improbable run into the semifinals at the 2014 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, the Dragons caught the attention of an entire Nation with a captivating spirit and endearing personality. Featuring pitcher Mo’ne Davis, the first girl to hurl a shutout in Little League World Series history, the Taney Dragons set an example of teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitude.
With a lineup of fine student athletes, the Dragons showed the sports world that competing can be fun and rewarding. The team’s roster is comprised of Scott Bandura, Kai Cummings, Carter Davis, Mo’ne Davis, Jahli Hendricks, Erik Lipson, Jack Rice, Joe Richardson, Tai Shanahan, Eli Simon, Zion Spearman, and Jared Sprague-Lott. The coaching staff is led by manager Alex Rice with assistants Reggie Cummings and Leland Lott.
The City of Philadelphia honored the Taney Dragons with a parade down Broad Street and ceremony at Citizens Bank Park before a Phillies game. Mayor Michael Nutter summed up the experience: “To have this kind of incredible joy around kids just playing a game, just having a good time, I think it was really exciting for the whole City and people responded.”
Phillies slugger, Ryan Howard, gave a major league perspective on Taney baseball: “This is the epitome of Philadelphia right here. I felt like a little kid when I was hanging out with these guys. They were full of life and full of energy and just plain fun.”
The music video, “Taney Street,” is produced by Values of America Publishing in conjunction with G-Man Productions, with lyrics by Robert “brother b” Merz; vocals by Mookie Sanders, and music production by Trystan Matthews of Laetoli Music in New York. According to Merz, “we wanted to create a fun music video that highlighted the inspirational play of these young athletes.”
