Bronx, NY (PRWEB) November 13, 2014
This fall, Riverdale Urgent Care is both hosting and participating in local events that lend support to the community. On Oct. 26, the center held a neighborhood blood drive at its location on 5665 Riverdale Ave., in the Skyview Shopping Center. Despite inclement weather, it did not dampen the spirit of helping out for a good cause.
The goal was to receive 30 pints of blood, but the overarching idea was to help tackle blood shortages. Someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds, and each year, over 4 million Americans would die without a blood transfusion. Riverdale Urgent Care also reminds people that donating is a simple and safe process. One sterile needle is used for each donor, and the entire process only takes a little more than an hour from start to finish. The center plans to host additional blood drives in the future.
Riverdale Urgent Care then took part in the North Riverdale Block Festival on Nov. 2. The afternoon featured live music and other entertainment and attractions. Another rainy day, the center chose to brave the elements, staying out to distribute useful health information from their table. They also offered diabetes monitoring, checking blood glucose levels with a finger stick.
Riverdale Urgent Care also reminds the community that we are now in the midst of flu season, so flu shots are available at the center. Please call 347-913-4242 for more information.
