Octo Consulting Group Hosts Day of Service to Honor Veterans
McLean, Virginia (PRWEB) November 13, 2014 -- Octo Consulting Group, an award-winning provider of mission-critical technology solutions and federal management consulting services, has partnered with the Washington DC Veteran’s Administration Medical Center to serve the homeless Veteran population.
Over 50,000 homeless Veterans across the United States are in need of support and care, and many of our nation’s service men and women are at risk for homelessness. Recognizing these needs at the local level, Octo staff teamed up with the Washington DC Veteran’s Administration Medical Center to assemble nearly 600 comfort kits and write accompanying inspirational letters for homeless Veterans who receive overnight treatment at the medical facility. Octo purchased and sponsored each care package item.
The Tuesday, November 11 Octo Veteran’s Day of Service began with a ceremony featuring guest speakers DC At-Large Council Member Anita Bonds, Miss Veteran America 2012 Denyse Gordon, and Ms. Veteran America 2014 1st Runner Up Kimberly Wolfanger. The honorary speakers each shared their personal experiences with military service and emphasized not only the individual impacts these care packages will make, but also the longer term reach of Octo’s partnership with the Washington DC Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. Octo Executive Vice President Jay Shah, who kicked off the event, remarked that “Octo has always been focused on community service, it is part of our culture and who we are as a company. It gives us great pleasure to participate in a program that gives back to a community that has given us so much. We are thankful for all that our Veteran’s have done for us and we should thank them every day, not just on this Veteran’s Day.”
Reinforcing its commitment to honoring Veterans across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region, Octo will follow its Veteran’s Day of Service with an America’s Adopt A Soldier event, to be held Saturday, November 15. Octo staff will prepare and host a Thanksgiving-style meal for homeless Veterans and their families to enjoy camaraderie, music, and a warm holiday environment at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia.
