When it comes to cybersecurity, organizations are putting too much focus on the symptoms and responding to specific threats, instead of understanding and mitigating the root cause

SurfWatch Labs, a provider of cyber risk intelligence solutions, today announced it has acquired a proprietary, SaaS-based risk management technology that delivers prescriptive steps for proactively managing impending cyber risks. This risk management application provides executives and security professionals with a practical approach to quickly implement the most effective measures from a security policy, process, technology and compliance perspective – tailored specifically to an organization’s business profile.

As part of the acquisition, Adam Meyer, former WMATA Chief Information Security Officer, steps into the role of Chief Security Strategist at SurfWatch Labs. For the past 15 years, Mr. Meyer has served in leadership positions in the defense, technology, and critical infrastructure sectors, and was the Director of Information Assurance and Command IA Program Manager for the Naval Air Warfare Center and Naval Air Systems Command.

“When it comes to cybersecurity, organizations are putting too much focus on the symptoms and responding to specific threats, instead of understanding and mitigating the root cause, which are the underlying cyber risks,” said Dave Ellison, President and CEO, SurfWatch Labs. “The cyber risk management technology that Adam and his team of engineers have developed enhances our risk intelligence solutions to ensure that executives and security professionals gain immediate understanding of their organization’s cyber risks and what to do about it through practical risk mitigation steps.”

The SaaS-based, risk management technology was developed as an alternative to heavy, framework-based approaches, with the goal of simplifying cybersecurity program management and ensuring more effective incident response. By aligning proven countermeasures with the personalized approach of SurfWatch C-Suite, which identifies relevant, real-world cyber risk indicators, executives and security teams can quickly pivot and bolster risk mitigation and governance practices to better defend against the cyber risks they are facing.

“Most cybersecurity teams are overwhelmed – with threats to prevent, data that must be analyzed, tools to manage, frameworks to follow – oftentimes leaving organizations in a state of insecurity,” said Meyer. “By incorporating the risk management architecture that we’ve developed with the existing SurfWatch Labs solution set, in a common, plain English understanding, we’re connecting the dots between cybersecurity strategy and operations, so you can understand your specific cyber risks and execute the recipe for quickly and vigorously mitigating those risks.”
