Darby Family Receives 2014 Outstanding Philanthropist Award from Lowcountry Association of Fundraising Professionals
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) November 15, 2014 -- The Association of Fundraising Professionals(AFP) presented the Darby family of Mt. Pleasant, SC, the 2014 award for Outstanding Philanthropist at their annual National Philanthropy Day celebration.
According to the AFP website, “The award for Outstanding Philanthropist honors an individual or family with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, demonstrates outstanding civic and charitable responsibility and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles on a community, national and/or international level.”
The Darby family was nominated for the award by the Coastal Community Foundation. “Over the years, we have seen what a profound impact the Darby family’s support has made upon a wide range of local community organizations,” said George Stevens of Coastal Community Foundation, “From MUSC Children’s Hospital to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, the Darby family’s interests are diverse and focused on improving quality of life, health, youth development, and housing.”
In addition to churches, schools, colleges and the arts, Coastal Community Foundation, and MUSC Children’ Hospital, the Darby family has helped to support Charleston County organizations such as East Cooper Community Outreach, The Children’s Museum, Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, Life Management Center, and the United Way.
