World-Renowned Urologist, NYC, Testifies in Vaginal Mesh Trial
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 01, 2014 -- Dr. Jerry Blaivas, widely considered the world’s top urologist in the area of women’s prolapse, has been called to testify as an expert witness in the Southern Division of West Virginia court case Huskey et al v. Ethicon, Inc. et al. (No. 2:2012cv05201 - Document 271.) Dr. Blaivas has pioneered and developed a safe alternative method of prolapsed treatment using human tissue as opposed to synthetic mesh. This method eliminates the complications caused by synthetic mesh.
Dr. Blaivas was the first person ever to recommend and use non-mesh slings as the standard treatment for stress incontinence in women, and is the primary author of one of the largest series ever published on this operation. Both Dr. Blaivas and Dr. Purohit, urologists, NYC, are experts at performing this procedure. More importantly they are experts at repairing the damage caused by synthetic mesh.
According to a November 20, 2014 report in Bloomberg News, jurors in Florida recently ordered Boston Scientific to pay $26.7 million to four women after finding the company liable for injuries caused by Pinnacle pelvic mesh products. Additionally, four women who blamed the company’s vaginal inserts for leaving them in constant pain were awarded $18.5 million in damages by Federal court jurors in Charleston, West Virginia, including $4 million in punitive damages.
The results of these cases regarding mesh complications for women are of great concern to women suffering from prolapsed bladders. Prolapse is caused by a weakening of the muscles that normally hold the pelvic organs in place, and is most often caused by childbirth.
Men and women suffering from unsuccessful urological procedures often visit Dr. Blaivas’ and Dr. Purohit’s Urologist NYC offices when no other doctor can treat them. Dr. Blaivas specializes in the treatment of issues with women’s vaginal mesh and is one few doctors able to properly care for synthetic mesh complications. Medical professionals worldwide recommend patients to The Uro Center of New York, Dr. Blaivas’ practice with his colleague, Dr. Rajveer Purohit, a fellow Clinical Professor of Urology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Recognized as leaders in their field, Blaivas and Purohit are also known for developing a procedure for urethral stricture, as mentioned in Modern Medicine’s Urology Times on November 13, 2013.
The doctors have recently published a book by Oxford University Press entitled "Diagnosis and Treatment of Overactive Bladder." Other published books include: “Conquering Bladder and Prostate Problems,” “Atlas of Urodynamics,” “Case Studies in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia,” and “Nocturia - Causes Consequences and Clinical Approaches.” Dr. Blaivas is the former President of the Urodynamics Society and the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology, the Victor A. Politano Award from the American Urological Association, the F. Brantley Scott M.D. Award from the American Foundation for Urologic Disease, the J. Marion Sims Award from the American Uro-Gynecologic Society and the Paul Zimskind Award from the Urodynamic Society.
