Magma ExpressBox 3600 Supports New NVIDIA K80 Dual-GPU Accelerators

High performance computing system, ExpressBox 3600, tested and ready for use with new GPU accelerators

Magma today announced full support for the new NVIDIA® Tesla® K80 dual-GPU accelerator within the ExpressBox 3600 (EB3600) High Performance Computing expansion system. Each Tesla K80 contains two GPUs per board, with a total of 4,992 cores and 24 Gbytes of ultra-fast GDDR5 memory. The EB3600 holds up to nine Tesla K80 accelerators, for a total of 18 GPUs (44,928 cores) and 216 Gbytes of DRAM.

Magma worked closely with NVIDIA to complete system certifications, which includes thermal and bandwidth tests. The certification of the EB3600 ensures the NVIDIA Tesla K80 dual-GPU accelerators will perform as expected and be protected within the appropriate cooling environment for peak performance. The specialized environment inside the EB3600 chassis supports the newly enhanced NVIDIA GPU Boost™ technology, which dynamically converts power headroom into the optimal performance boost for each individual application. The EB3600 provides high speed non-blocking Gen 3 x16 PCIe switching at between all GPU accelerators (for inter-card GPUDirect operation) and one, two, or four Gen 3 x16 connections to the host server or workstation.

The EB3600 is designed specifically for a wide variety of high performance computing configurations. Demanding computing applications such as oil and gas exploration, computational finance, defense, aerospace and medical will see up to 2X performance improvement in computational throughput with the Tesla K80 dual-GPU accelerator compared to the Tesla K40 accelerator.
