The leadership teams we’ve honored have perfected the art of recruiting, developing, and retaining talent, setting their firms apart from others in the advertising and media world.
El Segundo, CA (PRWEB) November 18, 2014
On November 17, 2014, Advertising Age named Wpromote #2 in its highly competitive Best Places to Work in Advertising and Media contest. To be considered for the list, every candidate had to endure a rigorous vetting process that analyzed hiring practices, benefits packages, salaries, office perks, workplace environment and design, and more. Hundreds of companies submitted to the competition, and over 20,000 people were surveyed as part of the selection process. Amongst opposition from fierce challengers, Wpromote rose to the top as one of the best agencies to work for in the country thanks to its vibrant office culture and impressive list of perks and benefits.
Wpromote has fostered “a collegial – and collegiate – culture in which the perks are less important than the productivity they foster,” according to Tim Peterson, digital media reporter for Advertising Age.
Headquartered in El Segundo, Wpromote is one of the nation’s leading online marketing agencies. Their sprawling 22,000 square foot office currently houses 140+ employees that support the company’s five main services: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC), Email Marketing Management, Social Media Management, and Facebook Advertising. Built with an airy open-concept design, the office provides sweeping views nearby LAX airport and boasts plenty of bold, creative design elements, from bright red feature walls to conference rooms themed after The Princess Bride. Massage chairs pepper the space, and one breakout room is dedicated entirely to the professional masseuse that comes in three days a week. Employees enjoy weekly Lunch & Learns, catered lunches, and two fully-stocked kitchens that provide free cereal, coffee, and fresh fruit daily.
Other perks include paid birthdays off, in-office yoga sessions three times a week, generous overtime awards, monthly team social events, matching contributions to 401k plans, and 100% coverage of medical insurance.
Wpromote’s uniquely energized atmosphere is supported by a company culture that values honesty, collaboration, and celebration of success. Off-beat and outside-the-box thinking is highly prized at the company, where employees are encouraged to give feedback and think critically about not only their roles in the company but the company’s direction as a whole. To this end, Wpromote employs weekly feedback service TinyPulse to encourage all employees to share suggestions, critiques, concerns, and praise. Chief operating officer Michael Block takes personal responsibility for every response the system receives, ensuring every employee is heard and their input taken seriously. This attitude of forthrightness and genuine concern for each employee’s happiness helped to catapult Wpromote to the #2 position on Advertising Age’s vaunted list.
“The organizations that rose to the top are incredibly deserving,” said Natalie Zmuda, deputy managing editor at Advertising Age, in a press release. “The leadership teams we've honored have perfected the art of recruiting, developing, and retaining talent, setting their firms apart from others in the advertising and media world. And they've carefully, thoughtfully crafted a culture and a work environment that anyone would be lucky to be a part of.”
"I never had a job, so I had no preset notions of the way I was supposed to do things," said Wpromote CEO and founder Michael Mothner. "I realized that culture is not writing a mission statement on a wall."
Submissions were evaluated by Advertising Age research partner Buck Consultants LLC. With nearly a century of experience in employee and human resource consulting, Buck crafted two surveys to help Advertising Age find the companies with the best benefits and most-engaged employees. The employer survey contained about 100 questions concerning pay, promotions, health care, and other benefits and hiring practices. The employee survey contained about 50 questions measuring aspects of the workplace environment that contribute to an engaged staff, including fairness of pay, vacation time, relationships with management and co-workers, career development, and other workplace issues. Any agency, ad tech or media company with more than 40 full-time employees in the U.S. was eligible to enter. A full list of winners can be found on Advertising Age’s website.
