Morristown Medical Center Launches HealtheConnect to Empower Patients for Optimal Health Management
Morristown, NJ (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- Morristown Medical Center today launched “HealtheConnect,” a complimentary service to empower patients and visitors to use technology in their quest for optimal health. Conveniently located off the hospital lobby, the HealtheConnect store offers support from a full-time specialist who can assist in utilizing health-specific mobile applications and technology.
“HealtheConnect reaffirms Atlantic Health System’s mission to empower our communities to be the healthiest in the nation using all of the tools available to us, including mobile devices that our patients can use every day,” said David Shulkin, MD, president of Morristown Medical Center. “As the health care field continues to adopt technologies to promote health and well-being, we’re happy to provide this resource to help community members further integrate new applications and technologies to improve their own health management.”
Patients and guests can bring their smartphones, laptops and tablets to HealtheConnect to learn about an assortment of new health technology options, including, but not limited to:
- Blood pressure monitor (connects directly to a smart phone)
- Fitness trackers
- Wireless BMI scales
- Access to personal medical records
- Various health management smartphone applications
In addition to the on-site staff, the service area will be equipped with charging stations and sell other digital accessories, including ear buds and charger cords. In the coming months, HealtheConnect will host monthly seminars to educate the community and physicians about health and wellness technology.
HealtheConnect is introduced at a time when technology use in patient healthcare management continues to flourish. A report from Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project revealed that one in five smartphone owners has a health-related app, while industry reports predict that 500 million people will be using health-related apps by next year.
The app bar is the second technological initiative launched this year by Atlantic Health System, which has been recognized as one of Health Care’s Most Wired by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine for five consecutive years. Earlier this year, the health system launched Be Well, its first version of four smartphone and tablet apps that allow the public to better track and maintain their health, as well as quickly access any relevant hospital information and resources, including emergency room wait times. Morristown Medical Center also became the first health system in New Jersey to deploy PatientSecure, a biometric patient identification solution that ensures the correct health record is used for every patient, every time.
