RHT SpectraSafe announces a New scanning technology requires no hazardous x-rays or compromising images

A new technology for airport and related security applications was announced today which safely detects and identifies hazards inside and outside the body using high frequency radio waves. Developed by RHT SpectraSafe, the technology avoids hazardous x-rays or nude images and hosts broad applications in other areas including medical, recycling, military, and food safety in addition to security.

Using high frequency radio waves that pass harmlessly through the body, the SpectraSafe scanning technology measures small changes as waves pass harmlessly through the body. Each substance encountered has a unique "signature" identified by special processing algorithms. Even the smallest quantities of materials imprint their signatures on the signal whether inside or outside the body.

Scanning takes a fraction of a second and is as simple as walking through a turnstile. The technology has broad applications in other areas including medical, recycling, military, and food safety in addition to transportation security.

"There is no longer any reason why people should have to give up basic dignity and privacy just to board an airplane, train, or other conveyance,” said SpectraSafe founder and chief technology officer David Robb. “Our security scanning is much faster than current methods, and can detect a much broader range of materials, including explosives, drugs, and other contraband while using signals comparable in power to those of harmless cellphones."

Still in development, the technology has demonstrated proof-of-concept to detect and identify a range of test materials, including explosives and explosive components in addition to a variety of common biological substances. Materials are identified by using a database of "signatures". The database is currently being expanded, hardware and software is being refined, and commercial demonstration capability is being developed.
