Avalara Brings New Facility, a ‘Touch of Tiki,’ to American Tobacco Historic District
Duham, NC and Bainbridge Island, WA (PRWEB) November 21, 2014 -- Durham’s American Tobacco Historic District will soon house one of the nation’s leading providers of cloud-based software for compliance solutions related to sales tax when Avalara, Inc., opens an office in the Diamond View I building at 512 Mangum Street.
“Our Durham facility will initially house new sales and customer support personnel, as well as members of our CertCapture team,” said Scott McFarlane, Founder and CEO of Avalara. “We’re excited about expanding our footprint on the East Coast and gaining more access to the deep pool of talent in the Raleigh-Durham area. Growing our presence here mirrors our expansion in other areas of the U.S. and will allow us to continue providing the same high level of service to our customers and prospects across the country.”
Avalara pioneered a leading cloud-based software platform for sales tax automation a decade ago and today delivers a broad and growing array of compliance solutions related to sales tax and other transactional taxes, such as VAT and excise tax. The company is also known for its unique culture and signature color, Orange.
“Our culture is one of our competitive advantages,” McFarlane continued. “We’ve gathered an amazing team of technology and tax experts and our collective approach across all of our disciplines is a big factor in our success. What we’re doing isn’t easy, but we still manage to have a ton of fun along the way.” The company’s headquarters near Seattle, Wash. is a modern facility attached to an art museum and features a “Tiki Lounge” for employees. “We’re excited to bring a ‘touch of Tiki’ to the Historic District, and look forward to blending the best of both worlds in our new building in Durham.”
“American Tobacco’s critical mass of cutting edge companies has made it a national model, and Avalara’s innovative approach and powerful technology make it a slam dunk for Durham and our campus community,” says Michael Goodmon, vice president of real estate for Capitol Broadcasting Company, which owns American Tobacco. “Technology is in Avalara’s DNA. We look forward to sharing in their success here."
Avalara will occupy approximately 40,000 square feet in the Diamond View I building and expects to complete their move in the first half of 2015. The office will initially house about 115 employees. This includes all 35 employees from Avalara’s CertCapture office in Raleigh, headed by Matt Tormollen, EVP and GM of Excise and CertCapture, who will also relocate to Avalara’s new facility.
Alliance Architecture will be providing architectural and design services from their Durham office. The design team will be led by Vandana Dake, principal. “We are very excited to work with Avalara and welcome them into the Durham community,” said Dake. “It’s a great company and their culture and presence will have an immediate impact. The new offices will be designed to capitalize on the excitement of the ballpark and the American Tobacco Campus.”
