Previously only available in conjunction with DiSTI’s professional services, the Virtual Environment Software Development Kit is now productized as VE Studio and allows users to engineer their own virtual environments for maintenance training.
Unlike a game engine, which is focused on rendering a final image, VE Studio efficiently manages the entire development of the virtual environment beginning with project requirements, through to source data management, automated software builds and regression testing. VE Studio produces an intuitive plug-and-play Virtual Maintenance Training Environment (VMTE) that completely immerses students into the training content. These intuitive environments provide students with easy-to-use controls that minimize the amount of time it takes to effectively learn and operate the trainer. The foundation of VE Studio is the Fidelity Matrix; a relational database that correlates requirements, 3D objects, 2D support equipment, environment properties, and constraints that feed the automated build and testing tools. The tools that populate and reference the Fidelity Matrix include:
- Requirements Analyzer – An optional tool to analyze job procedures that in turn auto-populate the Fidelity Matrix with the objects and actions needed to complete the tasks.
- FM Editor – A graphical user interface for creating and modifying Fidelity Matrix content.
- MaxLink – a 3ds Max plug-in to associate 3-D model geometry with objects in the Fidelity Matrix.
- VE Builder – Automatic on-demand build tools for on-the-fly builds of the virtual environment objects.
- VE Tester – Automated regression testing tools to verify the virtual environment integrity.
