Mercy College Receives Donation from Former Chief Executive Officer of NYSE Euronext Duncan Niederauer
Dobbs Ferry, New York (PRWEB) November 26, 2014 -- Thanks to a generous $50,000 donation by former Chief Executive Officer of NYSE Euronext Duncan Niederauer, Mercy College has established The Niederauer Family Scholarship Award. The scholarship will go to two lacrosse players yearly (one from each the men’s and women’s team), who maintain a GPA minimum of 3.2 and who are enrolled in Mercy’s Business Honors Program.
Niederauer said: “I am proud to support Mercy College as it helps students transform their lives by encouraging excellence in the classroom as well as in their athletic pursuits. At Mercy, I see everyone, from the administration to the professors and coaches, working with students to help them achieve their dreams. I want to be part of that. Who wouldn't want to be?”
Chief Student Affairs Officer Dr. William E. Martinov Jr. said: “This thoughtful and heartfelt donation will allow our students to pursue their academic dreams and reward them for all their hard work and dedication to Lacrosse.”
Niederauer was first introduced to the Mercy Men’s Lacrosse team in 2012 when he was honored at Mercy’s annual Trustees’ Dinner. From there a friendship with the team members bloomed. After Niederauer participated in a men’s full-contact practice, he hosted the men’s lacrosse team for a private tour of the New York Stock Exchange in 2013, and spoke to them about the importance of business, and finding one's true passion in life. Niederauer was presented with the inaugural Duncan Niederauer Friends of Mercy College Lacrosse Award at the College’s lacrosse banquet in 2014. The award was established to recognize leadership and service to the Mercy College lacrosse program.
Martinov said: “Duncan is an accomplished businessman, a world renowned leader and yet he always makes the time to give back to his community. On behalf of Mercy College, we thank Duncan for his generous gift and take great pride in having him as part of our Mercy College family.”
