Solomon Consulting Group Provides Beds and Books to Underprivileged Kansas City Youth
Overland Park, KS (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- When a child doesn’t get enough sleep, they are 92 percent more likely to be overweight or obese than a kid who gets seven or more hours rest each night. Poor sleep also negatively impacts growth and educational performance. The sad reality is that many inner city children not only get inadequate sleep, but often don’t even have a bed. That’s why Solomon Consulting Group, a leading Kansas City provider of technical staffing and strategic consulting services, is supporting Church of the Resurrection’s (COR) Beds for Everyone program.
This weekend, Solomon founder and CEO Grant Gordon and several other team members will volunteer their time to give new beds to more than 50 children who live in underprivileged circumstances in Kansas City. The children will also pick out colored bed linens and soft toys. The Beds for Everyone program partners with eight schools in this way, including Wellborn Elementary School and Wendell Phillips Elementary School.
“At Solomon, we encourage everyone to take part in giving back to our community,” said Solomon founder and CEO Grant Gordon. “Our continued growth is a blessing that we wanted our team to consider as we provided assistance to those who are less fortunate.”
For just $90, someone can provide a twin bed to a child in need, complete with a mattress pad, slat support and a metal frame. $35 is enough for a set of new linens. To date, COR’s Beds for Everyone initiative has given more than 700 children the gift of a good night’s sleep on a new bed. In 2015, the ministry is planning to expand to five more partner schools, school districts and non-profit organizations throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
In addition to supporting the Beds for Everyone program, Solomon recently held a book drive and will soon deliver 120 books to the library at Genesis Promise Academy. This is the only charter school in the Kansas City area serving at-risk and high-risk inner city youth during those vulnerable years, for kindergarten through eighth grade. Gordon has also participated in the school’s tennis fundraising tournament for the past three years.
“When the Solomon team toured Genesis Promise Academy we were troubled that the library shelves were understocked,” Gordon said. “That’s why we started a book drive that will help the students develop a lifelong love of reading and learning.”
