UTStarcom Introduces Market-Proven Wi-Fi Solution for North American Cable Market
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- UTStarcom (Nasdaq: UTSI), a global telecommunications infrastructure provider, announced today that it has introduced to the North American cable operator market a complete solution for a large-scale carrier-class managed wireless access network, implementing efficient 3G/4G data offloading based on Wi-Fi technology. Included in the solution is the company’s carrier class Wi-Fi access controller (AC) which supports more than 120,000 access points and over 1.3 Million subscribers within a single chassis, currently unrivaled in the market.
The UTStarcom Wi-Fi Multi-Service Gateway MSG Plus series products MSG10K Plus and MSG2000 Plus are the world’s first Multi-Service Gateways that combine routing, switching, WLAN gateway and access controller functionality into a unified multi-core system. MSG Plus provides a high-performance data offloading solution to operators, allowing them to optimize operating costs while offering higher bandwidth availability to their subscribers due to the high capacity capabilities.
Also part of the newly introduced solution are new-generation, high performance 802.11a/b/g/n/ac outdoor access devices, working with the MSG Plus series Gateway, that provide high transmit power for better coverage and data rates up to 1.3Gbps.
"UTStarcom's Wi-Fi technology enables integrated management of hundreds of thousands of access points and facilitates the seamless switchover from mobile networks to the Wi-Fi networks on our customers' premises," said Aman Sehgal, Regional Head, Sales and Business Development for North America for UTStarcom. “As home Wi-Fi adoption dramatically increases over the next few years, we will work closely with those cable operators who choose to launch such services for their subscribers, and provide them our large-capacity, market-proven, yet highly cost-effective solutions.”
The UTStarcom MSG10K Wi-Fi data offloading gateway has built-in strong physical and software attributes and features to achieve robust and centralized Access Point (AP) management and configuration that can be deployed in the core network. It offers a unique combination of unified authentication, high scalability and a reliable controller including seamless internetworking between 3G/4G, Wi-Fi Supporting up to 8400 users per second for DHCP. Also, the Web Authentication supports carrier-grade core deployment of up-to 120,000 APs and 1,320,000 users per chassis. It is seamlessly integrated with current fundamental mobile network technologies such as WLAN Gateway, BNG, Access Controller, etc.
The product has been in commercial deployment globally for over a year, demonstrating the capability of the solution to perform in a demanding, highly populated network. It is used to offload the data traffic in a carrier's network, where the integration of Wi-Fi networks with an operator’s mobile network can maximize the throughput of data and multimedia services. The solution supports today a network of 470,000 public access points deployed by a major tier 1 operator, and is ready to scale for more.
In June 2014, UTStarcom opened an office in San Jose that will serve as its North American headquarters. The office will house R&D, sales and marketing functions and features a product testing lab.
