Choquequirao and Kuelap will always be magnificent. Nothing will change that. However, the overall experience is sure to be very different in the future.

A few months ago, it was announced that there would be some definitive changes to Peru’s Choquequirao Trek due to the construction of a cable car. By the end of 2015, the first aerial tramway in all of Peru will be built to Choquequirao. It is anticipated that up to 3,000 people each day will be delivered by the cable car to this historic site that currently gets just a handful of visitors per week.

Now another ruins site in Peru is in for a shock as a result of none other than... the construction of a cable car. This Peruvian Times article explains that a cable car system will be built to the Kuelap archaeological site. These Chachapoyas ruins in Peru’s north are currently off the beaten path and remarkably underexplored. However, the goal of this new cable car is to accommodate 1,000 visitors to Kuelap every hour! Easier access to this fortress will surely result in flocks of tourists visiting the site in the cloud forest of Peru's northern Amazonas region.

Just as we suggested to travelers to visit Choquequirao before major changes ensue, Adventure Life can help plan your Chachapoyas Discovery trip to see Kuelap before the rush of tourists invade the area.

“We are encouraging travelers to visit these sites before the trams are completed,” said general manager Jonathan Brunger. “Choquequirao and Kuelap will always be magnificent. Nothing will change that. However, the overall experience is sure to be very different in the future.”
