For over 12 years, Wayne Farms has supported the American Cancer Society’s signature event, Relay for Life, across the southeast. In 2014, seven Wayne Farms’ facilities participated in local Relay for Life events collectively raising over $200,000.

Each facility is given the option to participate in their local community event and create campaigns to raise funds for Relay for Life. The Wayne Farms Relay team in Dobson, North Carolina raised $6,400; Pendergrass, Georgia raised $7,000; Union Springs, Alabama raised $14,000; Decatur, Alabama raised $160,000; and the team located in Laurel, Mississippi raised $12,000. Additionally, Wayne Farms’ corporate office participated by sponsoring the local Hall County Relay for Life with a $2,500 donation.

All Wayne Farms’ locations raise funds year round, at work and off-site. Fundraising events included hosting golf tournaments, coordinating bake sales and auctions, selling homemade chicken dishes, accepting donations throughout the year and more.

Several Wayne Farms’ facilities have already agreed to contribute again next year and to increase their fundraising goals.

About Relay for Life
Relay for Life is an annual fundraising initiative of the American Cancer Society. The first team Relay was held in 1986, and was the brainchild of Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Washington colorectal surgeon who wanted to find a way for everyone to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those lost and get inspired to fight back. Since that first event, millions of people around the world have participated in Relay for Life, making it the largest fundraising event in history.
