Sikka Software Finds Wisconsin Among Best States for Veterinary Care, Georgia and Minnesota Rank Lowest

The report, which uses data from more than 1,600 active opt-in animal health practices, also found Georgia and Minnesota rank among the lowest performing states for quality animal care.

Through data analysis from the company’s cloud-based platform, Sikka Platform Utility®, Sikka has identified the 10 success criteria that are key to a high-performing, financially viable veterinary practice. Sample best practices include successful veterinary practices having all new patients undergo comprehensive exams, as well as all pet patients undergoing testing for Heartworm, a common condition. Based on Sikka’s analysis, successful practices typically have more than 60% of all active patients undergo heartworm testing.
Using these criteria, Sikka provides a raw score for participating practices, with a maximum possible score of 660. The highest scoring practice in the Sikka network of more than 1,600 opt-in practices scored 438, while the lowest scoring practice was 103. The three highest performing states were Wisconsin (score: 401); Florida (score: 339); and North Carolina (score: 328). The three lowest performing states were California (score: 206); Minnesota (score: 198) and Georgia (score: 171). Because of a lack of statistically valid data, 15 states were excluded from the national analysis.
