Spelman Evans Downer's “The Art of Mapping" open at Soka University’s Founders Hall Art Gallery through January 2, 2015.
Aliso Viejo, CA (PRWEB) December 01, 2014 -- "The Art of Mapping: 25 Years of Painting by Spelman Evans Downer" exhibition presents curated selections from his two largest series depicting aerial compositions from the East and West Coasts. These map-like artworks combine painting with drawing, and are prime examples of the artist’s blend of photographs with projected images and paint to produce his style of Abstract Expressionism. “The Art of Mapping" is open to the public M-F from 9 am to 5 pm through Jan 2, 2015 at Soka University’s Founders Hall Art Gallery, 1 University Drive, Aliso Viejo, CA. Spelman Evans Downer was born in Pasadena, CA. He has a B.A. from Stanford University and a M.A. from San Francisco State University. Mr. Downer has been a professional visual artist since 1977, and has worked out of studios in New York City, Santa Fe, San Francisco, Alaska and New Jersey. He has been a full time art instructor at Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree, CA since 2001. His fascination with place reveals the continually evolving interrelationships of environments, the inherent geometry of geographies and geologies, the imprint of urban areas on nature, and histories of land use.
