Miami, FL (PRWEB) November 28, 2014
Yesterday on November 27th, 2014, Thanksgiving morning, Branches delivered over 6,100 hot meals to needy individuals and families from 8 different sites throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. This is the largest meal delivery effort in Florida on Thanksgiving Day. Over 1,400 volunteers worked very hard on Thanksgiving morning at 8 by putting together individual meals via assembly lines and passing them off to volunteer drivers who delivered them. Each meal includes turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, a roll with butter and of course a piece of pie. However, Branches’ Thanksgiving program is about much more than just a hot meal; all meals include a Meal Insert, which provides clients with valuable information about community resources and programs in English, Spanish and Creole.
Branches is excited to be celebrating its 14th Thanksgiving Anniversary. Branches partners with several United Methodist congregations as well as Faith in the City to make this Thanksgiving miracle possible. Volunteers begin the cooking preparations a few days prior to Thanksgiving which include the seasoning of turkeys and prepping of all the vegetables, trimmings and dessert. Many volunteer chefs and cooks will spend countless hours getting ready for the big day to make sure that everything goes off without a hitch.
A huge thank you goes out to our premiere Thanksgiving Meal Delivery sponsor, Molina Healthcare of Florida! Molina has been a sponsor of the event for four years and over 100 employees volunteered at several sites to help distribute meals to those in need as part of the company’s Volunteer Time Off program.
Thank you as well to our other top sponsors:
The Batchelor Foundation
Brown Mackie College Miami
Goya Foods of Florida
