Spirit of Giving is Strong Among Equity Trust Employees
Westlake, OH (PRWEB) November 28, 2014 -- Equity Trust Company’s tradition of giving back to the company continues this holiday season with several activities including a turkey bake and a food drive.
Employees donated their time and oven space to collectively bake 100 turkeys, donated by the company, to be distributed St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain on Thanksgiving. This is the Equity Trust’s seventh year participating in the program, which has thrived thanks to the support of the company, its founder, Dick Desich, and his family.
The holiday-season of giving also included a food drive, during which employees collected more than 250 food items to donate to the Boys & Girls Club of Oakwood/Lorain. Equity Trust has partnered with this organization for a number of years, providing support and donations regularly.
Each day, the club sends its members home with backpacks filled with after school snacks and non-perishable goods. The children and their families rely on these goods from the club. It costs the Boys & Girls Club approximately $3.50 per day to feed each of the 150 children who are members. Sandi Domain, Resource Development Director of the club, said the food could not have come at a better time. With the long Thanksgiving weekend, the kids will be away from the club and without their daily backpack of food goods for two weeks.
Equity Trust employees will continue their support of the Boys & Girls Club by supporting a toy drive around Christmas time later this year.
The family-owned Equity Trust Company and its employees have shown their generosity in various ways since the company’s inception in 1974, and the efforts have only increased since the company combined operations into one new headquarters building in Westlake in December 2013. Charitable activities are overseen by the employee-led Getting Individuals to Volunteer for Equity (GIVE) group.
Employees have given back to the community in other ways in recent months, including heavy participation in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, blood drives, and a chili cook-off to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of Lorain. In early 2015, several employees plan to participate in a hair-cut-a-thon to donate their hair to be made into wigs for children with hair loss.
