Use Case Includes vCDN with High Performance TCP Termination on HP Servers

6WIND, a high-performance software company, today announced that it will demonstrate Virtual Accelerator, the first product in its new Speed Series family, at HP Discover. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator provides accelerated virtual switching and networking features for virtual infrastructures to enable Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), data center virtualization and network appliance virtualization. At HP Discover, 6WIND will demonstrate wire speed 240 Gbps aggregate bandwidth on an HP server running an IP Router Virtual Machine (VM).

6WIND Virtual Accelerator runs within the hypervisor domain with a hardware-independent architecture that allows new and existing VMs to be integrated quickly onto x86-based servers. As the industry’s only transparent virtual infrastructure acceleration solution, 6WIND Virtual Accelerator is provided as a simple software package so that customers do not have to replace or modify existing software such as Open vSwitch (OVS), Linux, Hypervisors and OpenStack® technology.

The networking and telecom industries are undergoing a transformation due to advances with virtualization on standard servers that promise cost savings, scalability and flexibility. However, if the proper software architecture is not deployed on servers with the transition to new generation architecture, competitive advantage and time-to-market can be lost because performance and functionality will decrease versus specialized equipment. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator maximizes virtual infrastructure throughput to enable dozens of high bandwidth, or hundreds of low bandwidth, virtual applications on a server.

Enabling Virtualization for Content Delivery Networks

6WIND developed a vCDN (virtual Content Delivery Network) use case whereby 6WIND Virtual Accelerator is combined with the TCP Termination module within 6WIND’s 6WINDGate™ packet processing software. The 6WINDGate TCP stack enables developers to create high performance vCDN applications sustaining over 100 million concurrent TCP connections, combined with Virtual Accelerator on top of HP NFV servers to reduce capital expense, scale network architectures and accelerate service creation.
