Teams have been announced for the 2014 Beach Ball Classic, CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational, Carolinas Women’s College Challenge and South Carolina Showcase. According to Executive Director, John Rhodes, this year’s lineup promises a glimpse of some of the nation’s top talent in rising juniors and returning seniors who are destined to grace the hardwood of the top colleges and professional ball clubs. “We are the nation’s premier holiday basketball tournament for a reason,” said Executive Director, John Rhodes.

Past tournaments have featured now famous players including Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Ramon Sessions, Raymond Felton, and Ivory Latta just to name a few.

Since 1981, over one million fans have witnessed the Beach Ball Classic--a holiday tradition for local residents as well as the nation’s top high school players and their families.

“The excitement and the attendance of these tournaments has continued to grow,” said Rhodes. “The addition of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational and the Carolinas Challenge has made a positive impact on sports in general and on our local economy.”

“The success of all three of these tournaments can be largely attributed to the support of the local community, tournament sponsors, and the volunteers who serve as Ambassadors to the visiting teams and their families,” he continued. “The loyalty of this community is definitely key to our continued success.”

Aside from being the most successful high school sporting event on the Grand Strand and Horry County, and one of the most acclaimed high school tournaments in the nation, the Beach Ball Classic is widely recognized locally for its academic contribution. Since 1984, the Beach Ball Classic Scholarship Fund has awarded over $500,000 in college scholarships to more than 300 deserving Horry County High School students. “Without the support of the community this would not have been possible,” said Rhodes. “This is something we can definitely all be proud of,” he concluded.
