Decosimo Healthcare Specialists Among the Featured Presenters for Georgia HFMA Conference
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) December 04, 2014 -- Decosimo, a Top 100 accounting and business advisory firm, announced that Healthcare Practice Leader and Principal Ken Conner, Decosimo Healthcare Principal David Cranford and Shannon Farr, Decosimo’s Director of Valuation Services, are among the featured presenters taking part in the Financial Executive One-Day Conference hosted by the Georgia Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). The conference is scheduled to take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on December 12th at Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead, located on 3300 Peachtree Road Northwest.
Mr. Conner and Ward Nelson, a partner with the Chattanooga (Tenn.) law firm of Miller & Martin, are slated to lead a panel discussion on the issues related to mergers and acquisitions within the healthcare field. In this age of consolidation, there is a great deal of activity on the merger-and-acquisition front. Smaller hospitals and healthcare providers are being acquired or merged with larger hospital systems. Physician practice groups have also become attractive acquisition candidates for hospitals and healthcare systems. The process of exploring all the considerations and finding the right match for the best synergies has become a vital part of executing a successful merger-and-acquisition strategy. Mr. Conner and Mr. Nelson plan to discuss the key financial and legal elements of the merger-and-acquisition process.
Through the presentation of “Lifecycle of a Physician Practice,” Ms. Farr and Mr. Cranford offer conference attendees an overview of topics including physician employment, issues in employment contracts, compensation models and fair market value considerations. They also plan to explore issues surrounding becoming a shareholder, hospital purchase-and-employ transactions and related valuation issues. In addition, the presentation addresses hospital-physician alignment models and related valuation issues along with post-termination issues, including non-competes, medical records issues and notices to patients.
As Decosimo’s Healthcare Practice Leader and a Decosimo Principal, Mr. Conner has over 30 years of experience in the financial aspects of the healthcare industry, and he coordinates assurance, tax, due diligence compliance and valuation activities involving healthcare clients. Mr. Conner is widely respected for his experience in preparing forecasts, advising mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Clients value his knowledge of facilitating problem resolutions within joint ventures and his ability to arrange financing for established entities and startup companies alike.
For many years, Mr. Nelson has served as the Chair or Co-Chair of the Corporate Law Department of the Chattanooga-based Miller & Martin law firm, which also has offices in Atlanta and Nashville. Mr. Nelson has extensive experience facilitating large healthcare transactions. For many years, he represented a regional, nonprofit hospital, and he continues to represent physician groups and other healthcare entities with respect to ongoing operations, regulatory compliance, contracts and corporate transactions. Most recently, he has represented a county hospital in connection with a long-term management contract, a nonprofit hospital in its sale to a regional, nonprofit hospital system and a rehabilitation hospital in connection with the acquisition of a nursing home.
As Director of Valuation Services for Decosimo, Ms. Farr devotes her practice to valuations of healthcare entities while overseeing the firm’s valuation group, which provides an array of valuation services to a diverse set of clients in various industries. Ms. Farr began her accounting career over 20 years ago in the assurance department of a Big Four firm. Her practice has focused on business valuation and litigation support since 2004. She is accredited in business valuation (ABV) and also certified in financial forensics (CFF).
A principal in the Decosimo Healthcare Practice, Mr. Cranford holds more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive and financial manager in the healthcare field. Specializing in physician services and healthcare consulting, he is dedicated in the areas of physician practice management, healthcare mergers and acquisition advisory and healthcare financial consulting -- including outsourced accounting, compensation modeling, due diligence and financial forecasting.
