Collective Impact to be discussed at White House education events today
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 04, 2014 -- In cities throughout the country, collective impact is continually proven as a method with the potential to have maximum results with minimum investment by uniting community stakeholders around common educational goals.
Today, KnowledgeWorks President and CEO Judy Peppler will join President Obama, the First Lady and Vice President Biden along with hundreds of college presidents and other higher education leaders to announce new actions to help more students prepare for and graduate from college.
The White House will host discussions on collective impact today: The College Opportunity Day of Action, in Washington, D.C., and the Central Regional Summit on Pay for Success in Chicago, the White House will host discussions on collective impact. KnowledgeWorks will facilitate discussions at both events.
Peppler will support collective impact conversations in D.C. focused on college access, and Vice President of Strategy and Innovation Pranav Kothari will facilitate two sessions in Chicago.
“Throughout the country, federal dollars are limited and educational investments are tight,” Peppler said. “We’ve seen the effectiveness of collective impact through StriveTogether’s work, as well as the impact in EDWorks’ model, and believe these are good investments to move educational outcomes throughout the country.”
Along with her StriveTogether involvement, Peppler co-chaired the start-up of the local cradle to career partnership in Portland, Oregon. She also served as chief transformation officer for the Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The White House’s College Opportunity Day of Action will celebrate continued efforts to expand access to college for low-income and disadvantaged students. Today’s participants will be asked to commit to new action in one of four areas: building networks of colleges around promoting completion, creating K-16 partnerships around college readiness, investing in high school counselors, and increasing the number of college graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
StriveTogether will commit to working with and supporting the national Cradle to Career Network communities in their collective impact work to improve college readiness.
Today’s second event, the Central Regional Summit on Pay for Success, will be hosted by the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation. Pay for Success is an approach to fund critical public services that aims to deliver better results by addressing social programs at an early stage and using public resources to pay only for demonstrated success.
As an expert in measuring the social impact of organizations and programs, Kothari will also bring his StriveTogether collective impact experience to the conversation in Chicago.
“Through the work of the StriveTogether Cradle to Career Network, we know collective impact is a successful approach to identifying and scaling interventions that get results for children while also ensuring efficient allocation of limited public and private resources,” Kothari said. “I’m looking forward to discussing collective impact at this summit, and hearing about other methods that are working to address social problems using Pay for Success strategies.”
