gMed Adopts New Metrics Recommended by Gastroenterology Societies
(PRWEB) December 04, 2014 -- Earlier today, the ASGE/ACG Task Force on Quality in Endoscopy, a joint effort of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), has updated the quality metrics related to common GI procedures.
The following priority metrics, for Colonoscopy, were suggested:
1. Measure III: Utilization of appropriate repeat colonoscopy intervals
Goals: >80%
2. Measure VII: Documentation of the cecum (via standard cecal landmarks) and photo documentation
Goals: 90-95%
3. Measure VIII: Adenoma Detection Rate
Goals: 30% Male, 20% Female
Other metrics like adequate documentation, withdrawal time benchmarks, and complication management will provide tangible added benefits to the base quality reporting standards.
gMed plans to fully support these new measures in the immediate future and believes they represent an excellent effort by the key gastroenterology societies to enhance patient care and population outcomes. As a result, gMed will immediately begin building supportive capabilities into its business intelligence software, gInsights, to evaluate and track performance along the triple society recommendations at the enterprise, facility and individual provider-level. gMed will be focusing on colonoscopies first and foremost, and will shortly expand to EGD, ERCP, and EUS.
“We believe these new measures will help advance the quality agenda and will help gastroenterologists manage patient populations with enhanced metrics. gastroenterologists who already use gGastro coupled with gInsights will be able to access this data retroactively for millions of patient encounters across the nation. gMed is fully committed to helping practices achieve the highest recognition for patient care and quality,” states Sam Rubinsztain, VP of Product Development for gMed.
