White House Launches 'It's On Us' Campaign to End Sexual Assaults on Campus
Washington DC (PRWEB) December 08, 2014 -- This is the story of a young woman who was falsely persuaded by a boyfriend to enter into sexual relations. Being shy and reclusive, she reluctantly agreed to go ahead with it. As many young women her age, she was hoping for a long lasting relationship culminating with marriage.
But what actually happened was exactly what she feared the most. After a short love affair, her boyfriend left her. Two weeks later she discovered that she was pregnant. Now her problems began. She was alarmed. Her life changed completely when she decided to keep her pregnancy. She became a single mother.
Later she said he acted like a harmless chicken. I wish I knew; I wish I discovered his reckless character. But it was too late.
Similar situations occur in our society. The US and Canada are experiencing an alarming rise in the number of single mothers. Many sexual assaults result in unwanted pregnancies. The women in question are often too young to think about a pregnancy, in the middle of their studies, or busy advancing a career.
According to 'It's On Us' website, the administration is asking the public to recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault, to identify situations where sexual assault may occur, and to intervene in situations where consent has not been given.
But it would be difficult to detect these situations, as they do not occur under the public eye. Young women have to be alert to any false claims, emotionally unstable, and arrogant characters.
