We recently caught up with DJ Alesso, the newest addition to the Karmaloop Ikons Program, at the Def Jam Records headquarters in NYC for an exclusive interview and lookbook shoot. Fresh off of signing to Def Jam, Alesso is popping off to a whole new level. Alesso first gained global popularity in 2011 with original productions and remixes of other popular DJs, but now the 23-year-old Swedish DJ and EDM producer is definitively on his way to the top.
With a distinct style that undulates between melodic vibes and gritty rave productions, Alesso is renowned for delivering high-energy, dynamic performances that position him in a class of his own. His latest release, “Heroes (We Could Be)” features the crooning vocals of fellow Swedish artist Tove Lo, and has been taking the charts by storm.
It is true that Alesso’s passion for his work, bold idiosyncratic style, and commitment to musical innovation truly make him a promising artist, but it is his commitment to giving back that further distinguishes him from the crowd and makes him an Ikon. In November, Alesso played a special set at NYC’s Webster Hall for Gucci’s Chime for Charity. “It’s a worldwide organization…they raise money for women’s issues like health, education; everything. All of the money we make on Webster Hall, we give it to that organization,” says Alesso.
With a new album release and tour slated for 2015, it’s clear that Alesso is planning to keep on his hustle. Speaking to what he’s most looking forward to, Alesso says he’s hyped “To play all my new music that I’ve been working on for a long time. I’m coming out with an album at the beginning of next year, and there’s going to be new elements in the shows—it’s going to be interesting and new. It’s like chapter two right now.”
We foresee big things coming for this Karmaloop Ikon, so be sure to peep the lookbook and check out our exclusive interview, where he talks signing to Def Jam, crazy DJ parties, fashion, and his upcoming album.
