The main goal of Esperanto-TV is to [provide] engaging content to all levels of Esperanto speakers, from beginners to native speakers.

Created back in 1887 by Dr. L. L. Zemonhof of Poland, Esperanto is an artificial yet genuine language spoken by approximately 0.03% of the world’s population – or about 2 million people. It’s called an international language because it was created to help ordinary people across the world communicate effectively while retaining their unique cultural identities and languages.

It’s estimated that approximately a thousand people speak Esperanto as a first language. However, entertaining and informational programming can be more difficult for students and native speakers to find than written literature. (Though William Shatner did star in the only sci-fi movie made in Esperanto, La Inkubo.)

Esperanto-TV is the world’s only IPTV channel dedicated to this international language. Featuring a variety of shows including documentaries, international congresses, music, and original films, producer Richard Delamore says that, “The main goal of Esperanto-TV is to [provide] engaging content to all levels of Esperanto speakers, from beginners to native speakers.”

However, finding a broadcasting company to host the channel proved challenging since customer service was “hard to find,” according to Mr. Delamore. What drew him to the TikiLIVE platform were Eyepartner’s “strong customer support and simple Facebook integration.”

“We [also] use the streaming and video-on-demand features, both of which are highly desired by our user base,” says Delamore. The Esperanto community may be small, but the ties between speakers are strong. This is why the global nature of the internet is so appealing to speakers who used to rely on snail mail and expensive phone calls to communicate. Esperanto-TV supports the language and connection between its speakers by streaming video content for their enjoyment and providing on-demand videos that enhance the experience for speakers and welcome students of the language.
