Employees from AdvantaIRA Trust, headquartered in Fort Myers, are volunteering on December 13 for the Heights Center’s “Operation Christmas Care.” The Heights Center holds this annual gift drive for the children of the Harlem Heights neighborhood, which is located in Lee County and is home to many children and families living below the poverty line.

Throughout the last, month local businesses have been donating gifts for the children of Harlem Heights for their “Operation Christmas Care” gift drive. Gifts were needed for more than 800 children ranging from infants to 15-year olds. AdvantaIRA Trust wanted to get involved by volunteering. During the “Operation Christmas Care” parents will have time to pick gifts for their child while their children get the chance to talk to Santa, meet individuals from the armed services, snack on cookies and hot chocolate, and make Christmas cards.

Some of the staff from AdvantaIRA Trust will be assisting with various duties during the day of the event. Advanta IRA believes active community involvement and giving is crucial to building strong communities. The company frequently donates to different local charitable organizations in an effort to facilitate this belief. “I think it’s important for my employees to get involved within the community,” says Dave Owens, managing partner of AdvantaIRA Trust. “Volunteering for even just a few hours can really make a big difference.”

The Heights Center has been helping families in the Harlem Heights neighborhood since 1999. There are over a thousand people that live in the community and more than 300 households.
