The new book, Dave's Updates (A Journey through Darkness to the Sunrise), ($9.99, paperback, 9781498406536; $5.99, e-book, 9781498406543) commemorates a life well lived, and celebrates a personal ministry that continues strong. You see, the work itself is a series of humorous and inspirational email updates, which shared Dave’s physical and spiritual journey undergoing treatments for esophageal cancer. The emphasis in his writings is that, even though life may be troublesome at times, even unfair, the love of God and friends cultivates hope and courage.
“Cancer is a common diagnosis today. Dave’s Updates provides an uncommon combination of encouragement, faith, and humor, not just for those facing cancer, but for their loved ones and caregivers as well,” states the author. “Although he died, cancer didn’t ‘beat’ Dave because his ministry, characterized by love and enthusiasm for life and people, continues through his words on these pages.”
Dave Trout was a family man, musician, actor, tinkerer, motorcycle-riding minister with a passion for clocks, trains, God, and all His people. He was characterized by his strong bass voice and his “bursts of enthusiasm.” He lived life to the fullest. Dave was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August of 2011, and died in the pre-dawn of September 18, 2013. Daylight brought a spectacular sunrise, symbolizing his emphatic faith in a glorious new life after death. Pat Trout was Dave’s helpmate in marriage, parenting, and ministry while also pursuing her own career as a teacher. They were a team for forty-six years—in sickness and in health.
