American Quilter’s Society Debuts AQS QuiltWeek® – Syracuse, New York 2015
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) December 10, 2014 -- American Quilter’s Society, the largest quilting membership organization in the world, is pleased to announce the debut of AQS QuiltWeek in Syracuse, New York, from July 29 to August 1, 2015, at The Oncenter, 800 South State Street, Syracuse, NY 13202.
15,000 in attendance are expected to converge on the Syracuse area to enjoy four days of the best in international quilt and textile artistry. Over 500 quilts will be on display with more than $50,000 in prizes to be awarded for quilting excellence at the event. In addition, QuiltWeek will be hosting a series of workshops and special events with some of the top talent in the quilt industry and an extensive Merchant Mall comprised of both local and national vendors. American Quilter’s Society COO Richard Louise stated, “As the son of a Syracuse quilter and someone native to the area, I am more than excited that AQS is bringing QuiltWeek to a city with such strong ties to fiber art and creativity.”
Included in the QuiltWeek celebrated exhibits are the The WICKED™ Cherrywood Challenge, SAQA Wide Horizons IV exhibit of thirty quilts from leading fiber artists and the Red, White & Quilted exhibit featuring antique quilts procured by Linda Baxter Lasco. Two exhibits from The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky, will be on display: New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Nine Patch and selections from the 2016 Pilgrim/Roy Invitational Challenge. The Stitch Like an Egyptian exhibit will showcase khayamiya art by the Tentmakers of Cairo that is created using an ancient appliqué technique. All of the works from this exhibit will be available for purchase. Evening events feature world-renowned celebrities presenting their unique spin on fabrics, quilting, and life. AQS Certified Quilt Appraisers will be available at the event to appraise new or antique quilts for insurance replacement or fair market values. There is an appraisal fee of $50 per quilt, payable at quilt check in.
Admission to AQS QuiltWeek includes access to all special exhibits and the Merchant Mall with hundreds of quilting items for sale. Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m Wednesday through Friday, July 29–31, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1.
