“It’s NOT FAIR!”: Local Personal Development Center "SideKicks Family Martial Arts Center" in Lithia helps Kids, Teens & Adults to Focus on Fairness in December of 2014

December 2014 is Fairness Month as part of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s Powerful Words Character Development program! All students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on understanding the value and benefit of being the kind of person who treats others according to what is needed, deserved and appropriate. In addition to all of the physical skills that they'll be working on this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts both in and out of class:
• Fairness defined: What is fair? What is unfair?
• Play by the rules: Achieving fairness in competition and in life.
• Fair share: Taking turns, being accountable and making mistakes.
• Gift of fairness: Keeping an open mind, listening to all sides & fighting fairly.
“Fairness is a tough concept to understand for many children. It’s easy to see why. Fairness does not necessarily mean equal or “the same” and yet studies tell us that young children believe that inequality is unfair (i.e. Science, May 2010). As adults, we know that fairness is reached when everyone gets what is needed, deserved and appropriate given age and circumstance. ” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s child & adolescent expert, and creator of the Powerful Words Character Development system used at the facility.
