“It’s NOT FAIR!”: Local Personal Development Center "SideKicks Family Martial Arts Center" in Lithia helps Kids, Teens & Adults to Focus on Fairness in December of 2014

“Fairness is illuminated by empathy. The moment you believe a situation is fair, take hold of the other side of the stick to ensure that you still feel the same.” -- Dr. Robyn Silverman – Sidekicks's Child Development Expert.

December 2014 is Fairness Month as part of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s Powerful Words Character Development program! All students will be studying, developing and experiencing powerful life lessons focusing on understanding the value and benefit of being the kind of person who treats others according to what is needed, deserved and appropriate. In addition to all of the physical skills that they'll be working on this month, students will be discussing and practicing the following concepts both in and out of class:

  • Fairness defined: What is fair? What is unfair?
  • Play by the rules: Achieving fairness in competition and in life.
  • Fair share: Taking turns, being accountable and making mistakes.
  • Gift of fairness: Keeping an open mind, listening to all sides & fighting fairly.

“Fairness is a tough concept to understand for many children. It’s easy to see why. Fairness does not necessarily mean equal or “the same” and yet studies tell us that young children believe that inequality is unfair (i.e. Science, May 2010). As adults, we know that fairness is reached when everyone gets what is needed, deserved and appropriate given age and circumstance. ” says Dr. Robyn Silverman, Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center’s child & adolescent expert, and creator of the Powerful Words Character Development system used at the facility.

Manny Cabrera III, Owner of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center says, "Fairness is such an important character trait. One of the biggest things that people look for in a leader is their ability to be fair. As our students work on understanding and focusing on fairness this month, they’ll start to see things from a whole different perspective. I’m personally excited to see the positive impact that this month’s Powerful Words Curriculum has on our students as well as on our entire community. That’s what it’s all about for us and we take this very seriously.

"It’s a pleasure seeing our community recognized as a place with Powerful Character, and seeing our students lead the way! As this community’s premier Powerful Personal Development Center, we take this responsibility very seriously. We're thrilled to help our students and our community to thrive and succeed, and Fairness month is going to help us to do just that.

"Sidekicks curriculum and the Powerful Words Character Development system provide our students with the opportunities to become UNSTOPPABLE in life. These lessons will remain with our students for life and we're honored to help them achieve the success that they deserve” says Cabrera.

Manny Cabrera III is the Owner and Chief Instructor of Sidekicks Family martial Arts Center and has helped thousands of kids, teens, and adults to embrace a positive and healthy lifestyle.
