Mt. Kisco, NY (PRWEB) December 08, 2014
Northern Westchester Hospital and the North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today that an agreement has been reached for the 233-bed Mount Kisco hospital to join the New York area’s largest health network. With a formal agreement signed, North Shore-LIJ will proceed to secure all necessary approvals to finalize the relationship, which is anticipated to occur in early 2015.
Judge Robert Spolzino, Chairman of the Board for Northern Westchester Hospital, stated, “We are extremely pleased to report that this agreement meets all of the objectives set out by the NWH Board of Trustees, acting on behalf of our community, and creates a strong foundation for a successful future together. North Shore-LIJ is well ahead of other area health systems in the transformation to Population Health Management, which will help to ensure that Northern Westchester Hospital remains one of the highest-quality, cost effective providers in the nation.”
Northern Westchester Hospital becomes North Shore-LIJ’s 19th hospital, and with the recent addition of Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, continues the expansion of the health system’s presence in Westchester County, beyond its traditional service area in New York City and Long Island. The addition of Northern Westchester Hospital’s approximately 1,200 employees increases North Shore-LIJ’s workforce to more than 51,000 – the largest private employer in New York State.
“North Shore-LIJ is taking a patient-centered approach to expanding into the Hudson Valley, so patients will continue to receive the same high-quality healthcare that they have grown to expect from Northern Westchester Hospital,” said North Shore-LIJ President and CEO Michael J. Dowling. “This focus on local care will be supported by a commitment to maintaining and enhancing the key services that the hospital provides to the community today.”
“By joining the North Shore-LIJ Health System, NWH will directly benefit from stronger clinical information systems, economies of scale, access to capital, and the sharing of knowledge available from a system of community hospitals anchored by well-established academic medical centers,” stated Joel Seligman, President and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital. “Throughout this decision-making process we have remained focused on our responsibility to continue providing high-quality, patient-centered care. We are confident that the decision to have NWH join the North Shore-LIJ System will prove to be a very good one for our community.”
Over the years, NWH has emerged as one of the top community hospitals in New York State by providing extraordinary care to the community. As a member of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, Northern Westchester Hospital and its leadership team will have an important role in developing expansion plans for the North Shore-LIJ Health System in the greater Hudson Valley. This agreement also provides for the NWH Board of Trustees to remain a governing body of NWH for several years.
