The Council for Responsible Nutrition Announces New Research that Shows 68 Percent of U.S. Adults Are Using Dietary Supplements
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) December 10, 2014 -- According to a new study performed by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), approximately 68 percent of all adults report taking some form of dietary supplement on a regular basis.
The information was shared by Nutritional Products International, a renowned sports nutrition, health and beauty marketing firm, as part of its continuing efforts to educate people about the benefits of dietary supplements. According to NPI, these latest numbers reflect how the dietary supplement industry continues to grow across the United States in a wide variety of demographics.
“We’re living in a time when people are really becoming more educated about their health, and understand the importance of getting all of their essential nutrients every day,” said Mitch Gould, CEO of NPI. “There are more new brands entering the market every single year, giving consumers a greater variety of health products to choose from. People are finding supplements that truly work for them.”
The survey goes in depth with a number of different statistics. About 71 percent of adult women reported taking dietary supplements, compared with 65 percent of adult men. Seniors account for the largest percentage of people regularly taking supplements, with 74 percent of people older than 55 reporting taking regular supplements. There was also found to be a correlation with education and supplement use. Approximately 72 percent of college graduates reported taking supplements.
Additionally, supplement users were found to have healthier habits than non-supplement users. People who take a dietary supplement are more likely to eat a balanced diet, avoid smoking, visit their doctor regularly, get enough hours of sleep, maintain healthy weight levels and exercise regularly.
“The results of this survey really emphasize the fact that dietary supplements are a choice being made by people who are making smart health decisions,” said Gould. “It’s a positive sign for the supplement industry and for Americans in general.”
