PER® has been resurveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded accreditation for 4 years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.
ACCME accreditation seeks to assure the medical community and the public that PER® provides physicians with relevant, effective, practice-based continuing medical education that that supports US health care quality improvement.
The ACCME employs a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations. These organizations of medicine in the US are the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the US, Inc.
PER® received notification of accreditation in a letter from Murray Kopelow, MD, MS(Comm), FRCPC and chief executive of the ACCME. Our new accreditation term expires on November 30, 2018.
“This is fantastic news for our organization. The positive decision from the ACCME reflects our commitment to continuous quality improvement in CME for oncologists and hematologists,” said Phil Talamo, Vice President, Independent Medical Education & Operations. “Being awarded accreditation for 4 years allows PER® to continue our mission of advancing cancer care through professional education. We develop CME-certified activities that address clinical challenges faced by community oncologists and hematologists. Better reflecting the real world decision making processes that oncologists and hematologists undergo in the treatment of cancer patients in the content of our activities ensures that what physicians learn on Friday can be implemented in clinical practice on Monday.”
“We are pleased to have been awarded accreditation for 4 years, to be recognized for the outstanding quality of our overall CME Program, and for our commitment to providing CME that leads to improved patient care and quality improvement,” said Ann C. Lichti, CCMEP, Director of Accreditation and Compliance. “The undertaking involved demonstrating the strengths of our CME Program in our activity files and self-study report, involved every PER® employee. We are extraordinarily proud that ACCME recognized these efforts by awarding PER® with accreditation for 4 years. We will continue to raise the bar in our ongoing efforts to help the oncology community provide their patients with the highest quality of care. We are also committed to sharing our best practices with the greater CME enterprise through articles in Medical Meetings, the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEhp) Almanac, and through invited workshops at key industry meetings.
Since 1995, PER® has been the educational resource of choice for live and online activities focusing on oncology and hematology. PER® provides high-quality, evidence-based activities featuring leading national and international faculty with a focus on practice changing advances and standards of care in treatment and disease management. Activities also include topics on emerging strategies currently under investigation, supportive care, diagnosis and staging, prevention, screening and early detection, and practice management.
With the rapid advances occurring in the field of oncology, understanding how to use molecular data to diagnose and stage patients, select the most appropriate candidates for novel therapeutic agents, individualize treatment based on tumor type, and referring patients to clinical trials will continue to ensure the highest level of patient care is provided.
PER® serves the oncology health care community, including physicians, fellows, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, nurses, pharmacists, and researchers. For more information, visit PER®’s website, http://www.gotoper.com.
