Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) January 05, 2015 -- High5! Apps released their new take on video sharing, Caps, to the general public today, and it comes with a twist they think will allow users to connect in a deeper way. Unlike traditional video sharing services, Caps users must be on-location to get to watch a video time capsule, or Cap. The app’s developers believe this will offer users a more immersive experience than if they were simply at home in their living rooms.
“We really wanted to focus on the ‘standing-in-their-shoes’ effect,” said founder Julian Tigler. “The location requirement ensures that users are surrounded by the same sights, smells, and sounds as the person that took the Cap, creating a stronger experience.”
The team came up with the idea for Caps at the fall 2013 Penn Apps Hackathon, where it took home prizes from both Google and Facebook. In November of 2014, Facebook continued their support by accepting Caps into their new fbStart accelerator program and offering $20,000 in prizes and services.
As for their motivation, Tigler says, “There are so many awesome moments happening around us. We hope Caps gets people up off the couch and exploring their world.”
The app offers many different tools for Cap discovery. Primarily, the app displays all nearby Caps on a map centered around the user’s location. The map can be filtered to show only the newest or most liked Caps. Users can also search for Caps that contain certain hashtags. Finally, the app features global and local high score lists to help the most liked users gain visibility.
