Life Force Chiropractic has just kicked off a Toys for Tots drive at its Auburn office and is inviting new and existing patients to participate.

“We want to be able to help the community and any children who may not be as privileged as we are this time of year,” said Dr. Skylar Gemmer, the clinic director. “Kids might not have a Christmas if people don't donate toys.”

This is the fifth year that the practice has participated in a Toys for Tots drive. Those wishing to contribute can bring a new, unwrapped toy to the office; when the drive ends on Dec. 10, the Toys for Tots Foundation will pick them up and distribute them to children in need across the country. The program is run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and operates in all 50 states to give toys to children whose parents cannot afford holiday gifts.

As an extra incentive to donate this year, Life Force Chiropractic is offering a complimentary examination and spinal X-ray to anyone who brings in two toys.

“This is a great opportunity for those who might not normally have a routine checkup or examination to get out and have one,” said Dr. Gemmer. “It is important to treat your spine with care -- and there's nothing better than a free checkup for making a simple donation.”

Dr. Gemmer explained that although the company’s four locations take care of many people who have been injured in auto or work accidents, as well as patients with chronic headaches, chiropractic treatment can benefit a wider range of patients than people expect.

“People often come in to see us with back pain, but they find all kinds of other health-related problems that, to their surprise, chiropractics can help with, while we don't treat medical conditions, many of these problems seem to be related to the spine” he said. “We've helped people get off their blood pressure medication and asthma medication, as well as helped people overcome diabetes.” Each office location offers both chiropractic and massage services, treating patients in about 40,000 combined office visits annually.

The company’s owner was injured in a major car accident when he was 5 years old, and only began to heal when he started seeing a chiropractor.

“Observing that his chiropractor wanted to help others in any way he could, he decided to follow in his footsteps,” Dr. Gemmer shared. “As a practice, we're glad to be a part of helping people and helping the community.”

Dr. Gemmer said that the clinic’s primary goal is simply to help everyone have a more joyful holiday season. “The giving season definitely brings out people's gratitude for what they have and makes people stop and think about those who are in need,” he said. “I believe this toy drive helps them get into that spirit.”
