Designed especially for the film, Danner’s boots also star in Sentinel’s Wild-inspired getaway
Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) December 12, 2014
Portland author Cheryl Strayed’s New York Times bestselling memoir, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, recounts an epic journey of self-discovery along the Pacific Crest Trail and makes its wide-release debut on the big screen today in Wild, a film starring and produced by Reese Witherspoon. In celebration, Sentinel, Portland’s most storied hotel, is partnering with Danner, the Portland-based company that makes the Mountain Light Cascade hiking boots memorably worn by Witherspoon in the film, to offer travelers who want to walk in the author’s footsteps a Gear Up, Get Inspired hotel package. Designed especially for the film, Danner’s boots also star in Sentinel’s Wild-inspired getaway.
Sentinel and Danner’s Gear Up, Get Inspired package treats fans of Strayed’s book and the film, which was shot on location almost entirely in Oregon and has already earned Witherspoon both Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award nominations, to their own Pacific Northwest adventure. Those who book Gear Up, Get Inspired will receive a copy of Strayed’s Oprah-approved book; a pair of Danner’s Mountain Light Cascade hiking boots; a Pacific Crest Trail hiking guide; and cocktails for two at the Driftwood Room, the Portland craft cocktail lounge where flashback scenes in the movie were filmed.
After dropping their bags at Sentinel, package guests will stroll over to Danner’s flagship store in downtown Portland to be fitted for their own pair of Mountain Light Cascade hiking boots. Before hitting the trail, they are encouraged to break in their new boots while exploring Strayed’s hometown. Sentinel’s ideal location in the heart of downtown makes it easy to amble over to Powell’s City of Books – the largest independent used and new bookstore in the world – and peruse a list of books the author read and then burned to lighten her load along the Pacific Crest Trail. When ready to venture further, the Bridge of the Gods where Strayed’s epic journey came to an end, is located just 45 minutes outside of the city and guests will have their Pacific Crest Trail guidebook to show them the way. And, of course, after a full day of exploring, guests can pop over the Driftwood Room at Portland’s Old Hollywood-inspired Hotel deLuxe to sip expertly made cocktails at the very bar where Witherspoon perched while giving a performance that is already earning early-Oscar buzz.
Available now through June 30, 2015, rates for Sentinel and Danner’s Gear Up, Get Inspired package starts at $469 per night, plus tax, and can be booked at http://www.sentinelhotel.com.
