Carpe Diem Strategic Services (CDSS) Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Cyber Threat Awareness Guidebook
(PRWEB) December 15, 2014 -- CDSS Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Cyber Threat Awareness Guidebook: This guidebook will provide individuals with commonsense, easy-to-implement tips on how to use smart devices more safely and securely as they travel and work in cyberspace, whether for business or for pleasure.
The use of smart devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.) has increased dramatically over the past decade and that trend shows no indication of slowing. Some estimate that almost 60 percent of adult Americans now use a smart device on a daily basis; that percentage is even higher for younger Americans.
The mobile nature of smart devices make them equally effective for personal as well as for business, allowing people to surf the web, shop, socialize, and with increasing regularity, stay connected with business contacts from home or anywhere in the world. While the benefits of smart devices are obvious, their very mobility increases risks and vulnerabilities.
Because of their increased use, Smart devices are becoming an increasingly attractive target for theft with hundreds of thousands reported lost or stolen each year. A knowledgeable criminal, given the time and resources, could steal your personally identifiable information, credit card information or sensitive information and wreak havoc on your personal and/or business life.
As people travel, whether locally, across the United States, or overseas, they are increasingly relying on public, unsecure Wi-Fi hot-spots to access the internet. These unsafe practices could put their sensitive personal and professional data at risk of compromise.
Cyber criminals are becoming more and more sophisticated in their social engineering attacks, attempting to trick users to either voluntarily disclose sensitive information or to unwittingly install malicious software (malware) to their devices, which provides the criminal with unfettered access to sensitive personal and/or business data.
The pervasive use of smart devices for personal and business reasons will only increase so it's important that people understand how to use their devices in a more safe and secure way.
In addition to providing video training with Executive IP (http://www.executiveip.com) and the in-resident "Data Protection for the Business Traveler" course (http://www.cdss-llc.com/data-protection-for-the-business-traveler/), CDSS felt the need to provide advice for the general public - that's the reason for this guidebook.
The Kickstarter campaign will aid CDSS in completing, publishing, and distributing the guidebook, the first in a series of books on information privacy / data protection topics. It will also assist CDSS in providing additional information privacy / data protection products and services, should it exceed its minimum funding request amount.
The funding campaign will close on January 12th, 2015. To contribute to this effort, please visit: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/655401604/cyber-threat-awaress-operating-safely-in-cyberspac?ref=email
