Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine Deploys Desktop Virtualization Solution from Citrix, Dell and Unidesk
Marlborough, Mass. (PRWEB) December 17, 2014 -- Unidesk Corporation today announced that the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM), which welcomed its inaugural class in August 2013, has successfully deployed Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to seamlessly support bring your own device (BYOD) and deliver a continuous learning – and teaching – experience. The solution, comprised of Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix NetScaler, Dell server and storage infrastructure and Unidesk virtual desktop management software, provides the technology foundation necessary to help ACOM’s students become the best doctors, while increasing the productivity of the college’s faculty and staff.
“Our goal is to educate and prepare our students for successful careers in osteopathic medicine,” said John Abraham, Manager of Information Systems at ACOM. “To do that, we need to offer the most innovative learning environment possible. With third and fourth year students in the field instead of in classrooms, VDI offers a mobile, collaborative experience and a new standard of learning, while minimizing the time and effort we have to spend on desktop and application delivery.”
ACOM now has more than 400 virtual desktops deployed across the college. Unidesk® desktop layering technology enables personalized desktops for every user to be provisioned with any of the college’s Windows applications and a single clean Windows 7 base image. Dell PowerEdge™ servers, Dell EqualLogic™ hybrid storage arrays, and Dell Wyse™ zero clients provide the physical infrastructure. Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix NetScaler deliver a high performance, high quality user experience from on-campus and remote field locations. The combined solution offers full mobility and BYOD flexibility, and supports high definition video and a broad portfolio of applications, including Adobe Pro, Visual Studio, Office 2013, Autodesk Viewer 2014, Ellucian PowerCampus, TurningPoint Student Clicker, Google Picasa, and Avigilon Control Center.
“Our mission is to help our customers be innovative and forward-thinking leaders in their industries,” said Tom Rose, Chief Marketing Officer at at Unidesk. “In partnership with Citrix and Dell, we are helping ACOM offer a flexible, scalable virtual desktop environment that meets the needs of its staff and students and positions the college as a front-runner in e-learning.”
Adds Jonathan Hataway, Network/Server Engineer at ACOM: “To remain competitive as a new institution in today’s digital world – amongst both students and faculty – we need to offer a state-of-the-art end-user computing experience that can be easily scaled, customized, and updated. Our VDI solution with Citrix, Dell, and Unidesk gives us that edge.”
