Popular NXT web wallet providers MyNXT.info (http://wallet.mynxt.info) are adding a new offering to their services, allowing developers to appeal to the site’s account holders by building and distributing plug-ins to be used with the online wallet. Users can install any plug-in they want – many for free but some for a nominal fee – making the initiative something like an app store.
The new system will give MyNXT’s users a far greater degree of flexibility to install the services they want to use. As the foremost 2.0 cryptocurrency, NXT already has wide-ranging features that continue to increase . New services are being added to the protocol with every release, and more and more third-party applications are being created on top of NXT. Enabling the creation of plug-ins in this way will open completely new avenues for developers to explore, leveraging the full capability of the NXT ecosystem.
MyNXT has always taken security seriously, using client-side encryption and two separate passwords for login and transactions, as well as site-wide server-side encryption as an additional layer of protection.
In the same way, plug-ins will operate entirely client-side and will communicate with users’ wallets via a secure SDK developed by MyNXT. Although any developer can create a plug-in and submit it for others to buy or install for free from MyNXT.info, all plug-ins will go through an approval process to ensure that it meets certain standards of usability and safety. The first plug-in to be released is MyNXT’s own Asset Explorer app, which will allow users to interact with the NXT Asset Exchange – a platform already used by thousands in the NXT community. Assets are stored on the blockchain and the solution is completely trustless: MyNXT simply acts as a client-side interface for existing functionality.
MyNXT’s API allows developers to access the full NXT network and functionality, paving the way for almost anything users could want. Both MyNXT-exclusive API calls and NXT API calls are enabled, bringing an enormous amount of flexibility to the system. Online goods stores, messaging apps and trading plug-ins are all possible, and much more besides. ‘I can only imagine the types of things that people will create, and this is exactly the point,’ says MyNXT founder abuelau. ‘I want others to come and build cool apps that we would not have thought of ourselves, without having to worry about setting up NXT nodes or how to securely store user credentials.’
