We take vetting out charities seriously because ultimately we want the proceeds to go directly to the individuals in need and not get caught up in administrative or non-essential efforts.

Giving to charity is not new for Level Nine; in fact, for years a significant portion of profits have been given to numerous charities the company deemed worthy. This holiday season marks the first time, however, that all proceeds from these two important days will go directly to specific charities. “The idea came when we saw the news stories and social media buzz on the big box stores clamoring to open up earlier and earlier the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday),” says CEO Mitch Lamb. “We thought to ourselves, let’s do this the right way and send our employees home for the holiday, then donate everything we make to charity.” By virtue of being a website, LevelNineSports.com is always “open” but this approach allows them to reward employees, honor and respect these important holidays, and pay it forward to those in need. “Really, we felt it was a win-win and a no brainer for us to take this approach,” Lamb explains. A true win indeed: as a result of the Thanksgiving holiday, LevelNineSports.com will donate $103,050 to charity and they hope Christmas Day is just as successful.

There is a lot of work that goes into deciding which charities LevelNineSports.com wants to partner with and much of that is tied to the strict criteria they look for: “We take vetting out charities seriously because ultimately we want the proceeds to go directly to the individuals in need and not get caught up in administrative or non-essential efforts,” says Lamb. This strict evaluation process led Level Nine to select two specific charities in 2014: GiveDirectly.org and PencilsofPromise.org. Both of these charities do an excellent job of making sure each donation actually reaches the hands of those in need. “This is a core principle that was introduced by our owner and founder Richard Sinden and we take it seriously,” Lamb affirms.

LevelNineSports.com has been doing business for more than 14 years and has experienced growth and given back to the community generously in each of those years. Famous for offering incredible prices on the most well-known brands in the winter sports industry, LevelNineSports.com prides itself on the value it creates for the common skier. “It’s almost a duty we feel to make skiing affordable again,” says Lamb. “We want to make it possible for all to enjoy...not just the elite.”
