Not only is an untended package that is visible from the street vulnerable to theft, but it may indicate that no one is home, making the home a possible target for burglary.

As holiday gifts arrive on doorsteps in record numbers this season, police around the country are working to reduce package theft.

The City of Portland’s Crime Prevention Program warn residents that “not only is an untended package that is visible from the street vulnerable to theft, but it may indicate that no one is home, making the home a possible target for burglary.”

Among tips presented in a community package security action plan, Portland Deputy District Attorney Nathan Vasquez suggests the use of “safe delivery boxes” for individuals and communities as an effective way of deterring package theft.

This holiday season, residents can protect their packages and avoid sending an invitation to burglars with the Landport, a strong, stylish lockbox designed to prevent theft. The only product of its kind in the United States, the Landport is made of 16-gauge steel and can be bolted to any porch, stoop or entryway. A unique access code can readily be shared with delivery drivers through the delivery service’s app. It allows homeowners, apartment-dwellers and businesses to feel safe knowing that they can securely leave and receive packages in a safe delivery space, out of sight of thieves.

"At Landport, we're big believers that practical, simple acts of deterrence are the best prevention against theft, not only during the holidays but also year-round,” Landport founder Jody Pettit says. “Our boxes are strong, attractive and easy to use, but most importantly, they will help keep your packages and home safe from crimes of opportunity."

The Landport lockbox line starts at $499, and each comes with a 10-year warranty. For more information, visit: http://www.thelandport.com
