Old Trail School Joins Worldwide Movement to Get 100 Million+ Students to Code
Bath OH (PRWEB) December 20, 2014 -- Old Trail School students, teachers and parents participated with students across the globe in the Hour of Code project in December. This event was held in conjunction with Computer Science Week (December 8-14) and was sponsored by Tynker.com, Code.org and a variety of other websites and apps during the month of December. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries.
The School celebrated coding with a special Assembly on Dec. 9 that recognized 500+ students (as well as parents and teachers) who completed the Hour of Code gaining experience with programming and coding as part of their school work.
Students in early childhood through grade eight learned about coding as part of their technology, media, math and science classes. Students learned key programming concepts in challenging and collaborative activities including animation and games and will build on this knowledge in future lessons. The goal is to have students that create and innovate technology in the future, not just consume it.
Old Trail School is the recipient of a GAR Foundation Educator Initiative Grant which provided funding for this instruction. “Thanks to the support of the GAR Foundation, our students are able to learn this important skill for success in the 21st century,” said John Farber, Head of School.
