Pacific Fertility Center Launches Fertility Preservation Website
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 23, 2014 -- On December 17, 2014, Pacific Fertility Center (PFC) launched a new fertility preservation website to provide information and resources for women interested in learning more about egg freezing. No longer considered experimental by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), fertility preservation allows women to freeze their eggs—halting the eggs’ aging process—and to thaw them when it’s a more convenient time to create a family.
The topic of fertility preservation captured national headlines this fall when Apple announced it would begin offering egg freezing and storage as part of its benefits package in January of 2015. Facebook had started offering the benefit in early 2014. Although each company offers slightly different policies, both cover up to $20,000 for egg freezing, a procedure not typically covered by insurance for non-medical reasons.
“We’ve seen an increase in requests for egg freezing in recent years,” said PFC President Carl M. Herbert, MD, who called it an insurance policy for those who wish to delay family building. PFC was an early adopter of vitrification, a technology that’s helped optimize the freezing process by preventing formation of ice crystals.
PFC’s new website provides a rich resource for women wanting to learn more about egg freezing and fertility preservation. They can gain little-known facts about fertility and the science of egg freezing, explore the benefits of fertility preservation, and get clear on the process and costs of egg freezing and storage. In addition, visitors to the site will have an opportunity to hear from other women who are making similar decisions.
