"Green Button" Helps National Grid Customers Tap Into Energy-Saving Tools
Waltham, Mass. (PRWEB) December 22, 2014 -- National Grid recently completed its launch of the Green Button initiative, a program inspired by the White House’s challenge to provide customers with downloadable energy consumption data in a nationally standardized format. All National Grid customers can now access this new format by logging into their accounts and clicking on “My Usage and Cost Graphs.” Customers will also continue to have convenient access to their energy usage and cost graphs and other simple download formats.
“Enabling our customers to take control of their energy is an important part of Connect21, our approach to designing and building the energy networks of the twenty-first century, so participating in Green Button is a no-brainer,” said Edward White, vice president of Customer Strategy and Environmental, National Grid. “Green Button can provide access to additional innovative tools that help customers play an active role in understanding and reducing the energy they consume.”
With Green Button, National Grid customers in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island can securely download the last 13 months of their energy data in a standardized format and plug those data into an emerging array of online apps and benchmarking tools to make more informed energy decisions. One example is ENERGY STAR’s Home Energy Yardstick, a tool that compares a home’s energy use to similar buildings. Customers can calculate their yardstick score today at energystar.gov/yardstick.
