Kevin Daneshgar, MD, has performed the first outpatient laparoscopic hysterectomy at La Peer Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, CA.

The advantages of a laparoscopic hysterectomy over a traditional hysterectomy include reduced trauma to the surrounding tissue and faster recovery times.

The first laparoscopic hysterectomy was recently performed by Dr. Kevin Daneshgar at La Peer Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, California. Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive gynecologic surgery that enters the body through several small incisions rather than a large, open incision.

“The advantages of a laparoscopic hysterectomy over a traditional hysterectomy include reduced trauma to the surrounding tissue and faster recovery times,” said Dr. Daneshgar, who is an obstetrician gynecologist. “In this instance, the patient also underwent an incontinence procedure. She was able to leave the clinic within 12 hours of surgery.”

To perform a laparoscopic procedure, the surgeon uses a small laparoscope, a thin, tube-like instrument with a camera on the end. This device is inserted through several small incisions and provides detailed images of the affected area inside the body. Guided by visuals from the camera, procedure is performed with tiny surgical instruments. When the surgery is completed, only three small band-aids are required to cover the insertion points.

Laparoscopic techniques are also beneficial to patients because they reduce the risk of blood loss and infection. This minimally invasive technique is used to treat a number of gynecologic conditions, including:

●    Heavy vaginal bleeding and pain
●    Uterine fibroids and tumors
●    Ovarian tumors
●    Endometriosis
●    Pelvic pain

Dr. Daneshgar is joined by a team of gynecologists at La Peer Health Systems' Surgical Gynecology Center of Excellence. They are experts in some of the most technologically advanced surgical procedures for gynecologic disorders and conditions, including uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, uterine prolapse, and menorrhagia. They are also skilled in a number of outpatient gynecological procedures such as hysteroscopy, Essure (permanent birth control), Novasure, and Mysosure.
