English teacher, author and playwright, Avi Gvili was chosen by readers of the Staten Island Advance in an online poll as being one of their favorite writers.

Author and educator Avi Gvili is named one of Staten Island's favorite writers. He has written novels and short stories. . His book, "Life & Love & the Like: Stories from the Everyday" is a collection of short stories that deal with the ups and downs of married life and parenthood. This work was recently compared to that of Nobel prize-winning author Alice Munro in a reading event hosted by Staten Island OutLoud, a reading advocacy group. "The two short stories examine how men and women communicate (or not), what they seek from one another, and what they may find," the organization wrote in the event preview.
